Long holiday weekend leads to hordes of visitors at Sun Moon Lake

The long three day Mid-Autumn holiday has led to large crowds at Sun Moon Lake. The large influx of visitors seeking the natural beauty and serenity of the area has inadvertently caused traffic jams and no vacancies at local hotels. It was a long line of cars from National Highway 3 Wufeng Road traveling to National Highway 6 to Nantou’s Puli and Sun Moon Lake. It wasn’t easy getting onto a local road, as this traffic jam continued to linger.We’ve waited a long time, just leaving the parking lot took 30 minutes. The long Mid-Autumn holiday weekend led many visitors to Sun Moon Lake to take in the area’s natural beauty. The scenic location is suitable for family outings and neighboring hotels were fully booked. We made our reservation at the beginning of July as we worried that getting a room would be impossible during the Mid-Autumn holiday.Many people in Taiwan traveled over the long weekend, which coupled with Chinese tourists made the area more congested than before. Despite the big crowds this weekend, this boat operator says his business is down 20 percent over last year primarily because of fewer Chinese tourists.
